Wrist Pain

Wrist pain is frequently caused by sudden injuries. These can result in sprains, strains, or fractures.  Wrist pain also can also be the result of long-term problems, such as arthritis, repetitive stress, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Because so many factors can lead to wrist pain, diagnosing the exact cause can be difficult. If you suspect a fracture, see your primary care physician for an Xray.

Symptoms

The presentation of wrist pain can vary depending on the underlying cause. Carpal Tunnel syndrome often presents as numbness and tingling in the palm and fingers, more noticeable at night. Osteoarthritis can manifest as a low-grade constant pain like a toothache or pain with use of hand.

Treatment

Treatment options vary depending on the cause. If fractured a splint, cast, or surgery may be required. If not fractured, rest and a simple splint will help in addition to anti-inflammatory, over the counter, medicines. If chronic pain is unrelated to an injury, or an injury that is Xray negative for a fracture and the pain persists we recommend Shock Wave Therapy.
